Cars with synthetic fuels will be an exception from 2035

Date:

The EU will allow vehicles with this type of combustion in a year when the ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars takes effect

From 2035 it will be
banned in the European Union sell petrol and diesel cars, as recently approved by the environment ministers. However, Germany and Italy have been granted the exception to sell combustion vehicles with new synthetic fuels and without CO2 emissions, Faconauto said.

With this change there is now the “possibility to register vehicles with combustion engines as and”
only if the emissions are nilFrance’s Energy Transition Minister noted,
Agnes Pannier-Runacheron behalf of the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU.

This change in future regulations was supported by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), who believe that hydrogen- and CO2-neutral fuels can play an important role in driving environmental change.

However, the environmental organization Transport & Environment (T&E) was more forceful in rejecting this exception. “Let’s stop wasting time on synthetic fuels and focus on charging, retraining employees for the electric transition and responsible sourcing of raw materials for batteries,” says T&E expert on auto electrification.
