Bosnian envoy yells at journalists

Date:

A video by German CSU politician Christian Schmidt (64) is causing a stir on social media. “Nonsense, complete nonsense. I’m done with this,” the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina shouted at a press conference against journalists. A video of his performance during a visit to the city of Gorazde has been shared several times on Twitter. The background of his freak was the cause of changes in the electoral law of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Schmidt continued: “I’ve had enough of this situation. Everyone blames everyone else. Friends, you don’t get to Europe like that!” However, his English is difficult to understand, possibly due to his excitement.

Here is the Bosnian Commissioner’s anger video:

The German-born High Representative of the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina responded to a journalist’s question whether he was willing to make changes to the electoral law because there was no political agreement. Schmidt said in a rather undiplomatic tone: “The people here deserve that the politicians who elected them work and not just complain! That’s the core problem!”

“Ask your questions!”
Then Schmidt wants to tell the reporters how to do their job: “Ask your questions! But please take it the way I want and the way I treat people.” In a furious tone, he adds: “Sorry to be so outspoken, but I’m…here (Schmidt pointed to his forehead) with all the accusations that are absolutely false.”

The background of his freak: Schmidt had decided in July to change the electoral law of Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of his powers. These were technical in nature – they should make it easier to hold the upcoming parliamentary elections in October. However, he has repeatedly faced accusations that he tried to push through controversial electoral reform in the country.

Former CSU minister Schmidt has been the international representative in the capital Sarajevo for a good year now. His responsibilities included the implementation of the 1995 Dayton Agreement, which ended the war after Bosnia and Herzegovina seceded from what was then Yugoslavia.
