A fire on the Inntal autobahn between Innsbruck and Völs caused significant traffic congestion and a delicate firefighting operation on Sunday. Suddenly a truck caught fire.
It was around 2:30 PM when the driver of the heavy vehicle heard loud noises from the engine compartment. The 49-year-old was driving on the hard shoulder and saw the fire in the engine. The man had no chance to put out the fire himself.
Long traffic jams created by the lock
The flames spread like wildfire and within a very short time the entire driver’s cab was completely ablaze. The professional fire brigade of Innsbruck went to fight the fire. The highway had to be completely closed for the operation. Long traffic jams arose, which only slowly disappeared after the truck wreck had been recovered.
