The wave of bloody packages being delivered to Ukrainian embassies in Europe continues to escalate. 21 such incidents have now been reported. As is now known, the embassy in Vienna also received two animal eyes.
Ukrainian missions abroad have already been targeted by suspicious mail in 12 countries, the government said. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko announced this in Kiev on Monday.
The Ukrainian embassy in Vienna also received two animal eyes in the mail last Friday and filed a complaint, an embassy spokesperson told APA on Monday. He could not provide information about the sender.
Animal eyes follow bomb letters
According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, there have been a total of 21 incidents in embassies or consulates in recent weeks. In Spain, police had also seized three suspicious envelopes from the post office, it said. There were also alleged incidents in front of the seat of the Ukrainian ambassador to the Vatican and the embassies in Kazakhstan and the US.
Last week, several Ukrainian diplomatic missions received packages with bloodied animal eyes. There had previously been a series of letter bombs in Spain. A security guard at the Ukrainian embassy suffered minor injuries. A connection to the Russian offensive war that has been going on since late February is suspected.
“As (Foreign Minister) Dmytro Kuleba has already pointed out, Ukrainian diplomats should not be intimidated and should not be broken,” Nikolenko stressed on Facebook on Monday. “We will continue to work effectively to protect Ukraine from the enemy and our victory.”
