Technical failure – e-medication failed: problems in pharmacies

Date:

Simply go to the pharmacy with the e-card to collect the medicine previously prescribed by the doctor – this is currently only possible to a limited extent in some parts of the country. Because e-medication, a function of the Electronic Medical Record (ELGA), which is available in pharmacies, cash registers and public hospitals across Austria, was a problem.

Due to a “technical failure in the ELGA environment” there were failures in the e-medication on Wednesday. The outage has since been resolved. According to information from krone.at, it was a problem with one of the security servers whose backup system was not working.

Affected doctors and pharmacies
Several patients and pharmacists who did not have access to the system had contacted the “Krone”. However, the Chamber of Pharmacists could not confirm a nationwide failure. The service was fully available again late Wednesday afternoon.

Recently, there have been repeated problems with e-medication. The system should reduce the risk of contamination during the corona pandemic and significantly reduce contacts between infected persons and medical personnel. And there are also problems when switching to the corresponding e-prescription. The QR code on the mobile phone is often illegible and many places, according to medical circles, have reverted to “printed notes”.
