Officers have been suspended after footage of the incident was released
Three Arkansas police officers have been suspended from their positions after footage was released Sunday showing them beating up a detainee. The police officers restrained the person and beat him up with punches to the face and kicks to the body. One of them even hits his head on the ground while the other two keep him motionless.
Two of the officers are representatives of the Crawford County Sheriff and the third is a police officer from Mulberry, a town of approximately 1,600 Crawford County residents.
Crawford Police Chief James Damante has confirmed the officers’ suspension. “I hold all my employees accountable for their actions and will take appropriate action in this matter,” he said. The Mulberry Police have expressed similar views about their officer.
A user of the social network Tik Tok distributed the images that, as she explained, her sister had recorded.
According to information from several local media outlets, the incident took place after Alma police received a tip about a man who threatened a store employee with “cutting his face” and sent “terrorist” messages.
The 27-year-old man left the building and left by bicycle when he was approached by the officers. According to the authorities’ version, the detainee tried to flee and even attacked one of the officers.
The subject is in police custody. He was previously treated in hospital for injuries of which no details are known. He is charged with several charges, including assault and terrorist threats.
