He was on the road with no license plate or light – and in the most adverse weather conditions: A young moped driver tried to flee from police for more than 20 kilometers on Monday evening in the southeastern border area of Styria, and there were some dangerous scenes.
Shortly after 10 p.m., the moped driver was spotted by a civilian police patrol from Feldbach in area B57. He had ridden without a license plate and without lights in the dark, heavy rain and poor visibility on the federal road from Feldbach to Jennersdorf.
Breaks ignored
When the officers then wanted to stop the moped driver with blue lights and a tracking horn, the driver looked back in the direction of the officers, but ignored the stop signal and accelerated.
The 16-year-old later turned out to have fled from the district of Jennersdorf (Burgenland) via the surroundings of Pertlstein, Schiefer, Welt and Gritsch to St. Martin an der Raab in southern Burgenland. The youngster drove through the area several times, sometimes at markedly excessive speed and in an extremely dangerous driving style.
Dangerous Scenes
The 16-year-old also drove the unlit vehicle on unpaved roads, sidewalks and lanes for oncoming traffic. There was almost a collision with an oncoming vehicle on a traffic island in Schiefer. A seemingly overlooked bump in the road nearly caused the 16-year-old to fall.
The youngster constantly ignored attempts by various police patrols to stop him. The 16-year-old even bypassed a roadblock. After officers briefly lost sight of the moped driver near Gritsch, who had fled to a wooded area, the escape was over shortly afterwards.
No driver’s license
Police officers found the moped at a building in the municipality of St. Martin an der Raab. An alcohol test on the 16-year-old driver was negative. However, the young man from the south of Burgenland did not have a valid driver’s license. He is on trial for several offenses. In addition, a traffic reliability assessment by the authority was proposed. No one was injured.
