The President of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, will meet in Germany this Tuesday with the foreign minister of this country, Olaf Scholzwith whom he shares the desire to promoting the interconnection of gas from Spain through the Pyrenees and of which, despite his doubts, he will try to convince French President Emmanuel Macron.
Sánchez recalled during his Latin American tour that the European Commission already recognizes this connection as a priority in its energy plans for the future, and thanked Scholz for his interest in promoting it, as he publicly claimed a few days ago.
However, France continues to resist to the Pyrenees Road. For this reason, Sánchez has assured that, if the Gallic country maintains its rejection, there is a plan b which also appears among the Commission’s alternatives: an energy interconnection between Spain and Italy.
Macron, for his part, started this Thursday a three-day visit to Algeria, where gas will be one of the topics discussed. France receives Algerian gas through Medgaz, which is routed through two Euskal Herria gas pipelines.
