The general secretary of the CCOO-Euskadi, loli garciahas responded to criticism from Repsol’s CEO, Joshua Jon Imazon the future tax on energy companies, stating that the tax on energy companies “goes against business”.

Interviewed on Radio Euskadi’s “Boulevard”, the CCOO-Euskadi general secretary has called for responsibility from large companies, which have been supported with public money during the pandemic, and has asked them to stop being “mourners” as they approach being churning profit records: “They’re crying again, but the data is there. Inflation has increased the prices of products, companies affect the final cost of products.”

In this sense, he pointed out that the companies are making money, “some of them a lot of money, such as the energy companies and Repsol”, referring to the forum published this Sunday by Repsol’s CEO, Josu Jon Imaz, in which he uploaded against the tax on the main Spanish energy companies submitted by the government of Spain.

According to him, the decree “does not go against the rich”, but “rather goes against business activity”, so that it “damages” the investment capacity of companies and industrial employment, which will ultimately affect the competitiveness of the country and its modernization. In return, Imaz proposes an increase in personal income tax and capital income.

However, Garcia shares the part of Imaz’s speech where he talks about deeper reforms. CCOO demands a tax reform in Euskadi that rebalances the burden and changes the discourse of the general tax cut.

The Second Vice President and Minister of Labor of the Government of Spain Yolanda Diaz He has also expressed his opinion on it; He defends the new taxes so that these companies lend a helping hand in a particularly difficult time, but he is also committed to deeper tax reform.
