The Russian government in the occupied Ukrainian city of Enerhodar has reported renewed shelling at the site of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. Europe’s largest nuclear power plant has come under fire several times in recent weeks. The warring parties blame each other for this.
Experts from the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are on their way to the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
They are expected to begin an inspection there in the coming days (see video above). “We must ensure the safety of the largest Ukrainian and European nuclear facility,” tweeted IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
“Ukraine is taking back their country”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged Russian troops to flee an offensive launched by his troops near the city of Kherson. “Ukraine is taking back its country,” he says in his daily speech. The Ukrainian troops would chase the Russian army “to the border”. “If they want to survive, it’s time for the Russian army to get out. Go home.”
According to its own statements, Russia has repulsed the Ukrainian offensive in the occupied territories of Kherson and Mykolaiv in the south of the country. The attacks took place in three places, the defense ministry in Moscow said. The Ukrainian side suffered heavy losses, it said.
The information could not be independently verified. Since June, the Ukrainian leadership has repeatedly announced a major counter-offensive in the south.
