French energy supplier engie has reported that the Russian giant Gazprom has a from this Tuesday current reduction gas supply, which had already fallen significantly since the start of the war in Ukraine, due to disagreements between the parties over the application of some contracts.

“Gazprom has informed Engie as of today of a reduction in gas supplies due to a disagreement between the parties over the application of some contracts,” the French company confirmed in a statement.

In this sense, Engie recalled that since the start of the war in Ukraine in late February, Gazprom’s supplies had decreased significantly, with a recent monthly flow of about 1.5 TWh, compared to Engie’s total annual supply in Europe of more than 400 TWh.

The French ‘utility company’ has emphasized that it had already secured the necessary volumes to meet its obligations to its customers and its own needs, after taking several measures to mitigate the direct financial and physical impact that could result from a disruption of the supply of gas from Gazprom.

Business “Sobriety Plan”

The French government wants every company to have an energy “soberness plan” by September to deal with the threat that Russia will completely shut down the gas tap to Europe because of “huge” consequences.

“We have only one way out, to reduce energy consumption,” stressed the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, on Monday, recalling the target her executive has set herself to reduce France’s energy consumption by 10% in two years. Borne has insisted that, in order to avoid having to organize austerity this winter, the first urgency “is to avoid all consumption that is not essential from now on”.

He has acknowledged that the companies are already working but said “we need to move forward” and asked that each company prepare its own “sobriety plan” by next September.
