The Defense Ministers of the Twenty-seven take the first step to study the parameters and conditions of the operation, in collaboration with Kiev
EU defense ministers have agreed to begin studying the parameters and conditions under which the European Training Mission for the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be conducted in the future, as announced by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Joseph Borrell.
The twenty-seven have agreed to begin “preparatory work” for the launch of the mission, details of which are now to be determined, Borrell explained at a press conference at the end of the informal meeting of defense ministers, recalling that it was precisely because of the informal nature that no hard decisions could be taken.
“It is clear that we need to be fast and ambitious,” the High Representative stressed in terms of the times when there should be an agreement with Twenty Seven that would allow the launch of this new military assistance mission, stressing that the process will be carried out in consultation with Ukraine.
Exactly, the Defense Minister, Oleksii Reznizov, has had the opportunity to explain to the ministers via videoconference what military training needs they need in the short, medium and long term.
While acknowledging that some of the Member States’ ongoing military training initiatives are “being done well”, Borrell has maintained that the future European mission would allow for more “coherence” and also a guarantee over time with regard to said mission . .
