Sánchez appears in the Senate on September 6 to discuss the energy saving plan

Date:

On the other hand, the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, met this morning with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, and both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to build a gas pipeline connecting Spain to Europe via France or Italy.

The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchezhas asked to appear in the plenary senate to discuss it energy saving plan of the government and the economic and social consequences of the crisis. Tuesday September 6 seems to be the chosen date.

With this monographic appearance, the Sánchez Executive responds to the offer of the President of the PP, Alberto Nunez Feijoo, to debate the energy crisis in the Senate, as the Galician politician is not a deputy, but a senator. Until now, the PSOE referred that debate with Feijóo to the audit sessions of the Senate.

The request to appear, registered this Tuesday, was announced by the spokesman for the minister, Isabel Rodríguez, at the end of the council of ministers.

The date of the debate is set by the Senate, whose Table and Council of Spokespersons will meet this Wednesday, but the chairman, the socialist Ander Gil, has already reported on the social network Twitter that will be held next Tuesday6 Sept.

On the other hand, this morning Pedro Sánchez had a meeting with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholzand both leaders have certified the common front to make progress on the MidCat project, the gas pipeline for bringing gas from the peninsula to the heart of Europethat Berlin publicly supported, but has the reticence of French President Emmanuel Macron.

In joint statements after participating in a meeting of the Council of Ministers of the German government, Sánchez expressed harmony with Scholz on energy matters. “I am very grateful for the shared vision the German Chancellor has on the need to accelerate interconnections,” said the head of the Spanish government from Meseberg, on the outskirts of Berlin.

Without expressly mentioning France’s refusal to extend connections through the Pyrenees, he pointed out that: the alternative to MidCat is to work on the gas pipeline connecting Spain and Italy. “If (the interconnections) are not developed at the right pace, another interconnection will also be drafted in RepowerEU’s European strategy, namely that of the Iberian Peninsula and Italy,” emphasized Sánchez.

In this way, the Spanish socialist has set himself the goal of improving energy connections. “That’s what we need to resolve, be it by France or Italy,” he stressed, confirming that Spain “will respond to the call” from the countries most suffering from “unacceptable blackmail” in the energy field by the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
