Helicopter to clinic – 16-year-old cuts off thumb while working with wood

Fatal industrial accident Tuesday in Matrei in Osttirol: A 16-year-old boy broke his thumb while working with wood. His parents immediately sounded the alarm. The emergency helicopter flew the teenager to the Innsbruck clinic.

The 16-year-old Amsterdammer was busy splitting wood at his parents’ house on Tuesday evening when the serious accident occurred around 7:15 pm. “He got stuck by the machine carelessly stuck his thumb between the splitting cross and the wood and cut off his front limb,” police said.

Parents raised the alarm
His parents immediately provided first aid and set the rescue chain in motion. “The severed thumb joint can be handed over to rescuers in a refrigerated container,” it said. After receiving first aid on the spot, the 16-year-old flew a rescue helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck.
