On Newspaper Delivery Day, the “Salzburg Crown” presents Otto Berger, who has been diligently delivering newspapers for 45 years. “Everything is getting more expensive and that’s where the little bit of money I make from the delivery helps,” Berger says.
“There were days when I drove 700 kilometers. Even as far as Krimml in Pinzgau”, Otto Berger laughs. The 80-year-old from Lammertal has been a newspaper deliverer for 45 years. Even today, the retired “Krone” readers bring their papers every day.
He delivers 150 pieces per day
Berger’s alarm goes off at half past two in the morning. And every night, all year round. “Delivery can take longer in the winter, but I’m usually home around six in the morning,” Berger says. He delivers 150 pieces per day in Lammertal. Winter in particular is very challenging for him. There is always a second car available as a spare in case the snow causes problems.
“I’m still fit”
“But I don’t drive as far as I used to. But I’m still fit, even if it surprises me sometimes,” laughs the 80-year-old. Although he has been retired for 15 years, he continues to do the job.
