Police in Braunau, Upper Austria, caught a drug dealer who had been selling narcotics on Darknet for several months. During a routine check last Thursday, officers found significant amounts of synthetic drugs in the man’s backpack, police reported in a broadcast on Sunday. Further investigation revealed the full extent of the illegal mail order trade.
The synthetics found in the 25-year-old were neatly packed in Darknet drug packaging. During the check, the young man was about to send several drug orders to buyers all over Austria. Caught in the act, the suspect attacked the police officers during his arrest and fled, but was caught shortly after, not far from Braunau train station.
Synthetic drugs shipped to German parcel shops
The evaluation of confiscated data carriers and shipping materials showed that the arrested person had been active as a so-called Darknet seller for several months. In that capacity, he shipped more than half a kilo of synthetic drugs such as amphetamine, cocaine and marijuana to German parcel shops that he had rented under a false name. He transported his goods by train to Austria and, on the pretext, had the shipping labels made externally to cover his tracks.
Surveyed buyers in several Austrian cities
A search of his luggage and home also found 124 grams of amphetamine and 64 grams of marijuana. Customers in several Austrian cities were surveyed using shipping notes and sales lists. The 25-year-old was taken to the prison of Ried im Innkreis on suspicion of drug trafficking and his aggressive behavior towards the officers.
