Chainsaw was still running – hikers discovered killed forest workers (62)

Date:

Another man died during forest work in Styria: a 62-year-old Pole was hit by a tree trunk in Leoben in Styria. Hikers saw him because the chainsaw was still running.

The Pole, who lives in Austria, was only carrying out forestry work in the town of Leoben around 10:40 AM. He was hit by a falling tree trunk. The pole was discovered by hikers who happened to pass by: they became aware of the 62-year-old because the chainsaw was still running.

The emergency doctor of the rescue helicopter Christophorus 17 took over the care together with agents from the Erzherzog-Johann-Strasse police station. However, they had to stop the resuscitation measures without success. The man succumbed to his injuries.

Hazardous processing of storm damage
Only the week before there was a fatal forest accident: a 65-year-old man was killed by spruce while clearing work in a forest in St. Georgen near Neumarkt, his son was unable to save him. The processing of the storm damage from August 18th poses great dangers in the local forests.
