From April to June this year, a third fewer people were unemployed than in the same period of 2021. According to the EU definition, 197,900 people were looking for work. With 206,300 vacancies, there was another high point in this area.
Despite the war in Ukraine and its consequences, the number of people in employment has risen by 4.5 percent to 4,438,900, Statistics Austria announced on Thursday. In August, however, there were more unemployed than in July.
More men employed
The employment rate, or the proportion of working people among all 15 to 64-year-olds, was 74.1 percent. This figure was 78.2 percent for men and 69.9 percent for women.
Compared to the second quarter of 2021, the employment rate has increased by a total of 2.5 percentage points. There was a slight seasonal increase of 0.8 percentage point compared to the previous quarter.
