In a dramatic rescue operation, several drivers near Amsterdam saved a mother and her two children from drowning. The woman lost control on Friday on a highway near the Dutch capital, which ended up in a canal upside down, police said. Several riders did not hesitate for a moment and threw themselves into the water.
First they managed to tip the car, which quickly filled with water, on its side and smash a window. Only one hand of the mother looked out of the water, a boy was already with his head under the water. One of the helpers managed to get the boy out of the car through the trunk. “I had the boy in my arms when I brought him to the shore. He was very limp and didn’t move, I thought he was dead,” said the rescuer, according to the police.
Mother and children home soon
The men also got his sister out of the car, while one kept the mother’s head above water. Rescuers took the three to a clinic, which they are expected to be able to leave soon. “Our heroes”, as the police called the rescuers, were able to regain their strength at the station.
