Kept as a pet – Man, 77, dies in Australia kangaroo attack

Date:

A 77-year-old man who kept the marsupial as a pet was fatally injured in Australia’s first fatal kangaroo attack since 1936. Emergency services in Redmond south of Perth had tried to help the injured. However, the kangaroo was aggressive and did not let rescuers near the man – he died of his injuries. The animal was killed.

Despite all rescue efforts, the man died. It is still unclear what prompted the attack. Kangaroo expert Graeme Coulson said marsupial attacks, while not uncommon, were “very, very rarely fatal.” The animals especially attack when they feel cornered.

Lots of attacks lately
Earlier this year there were several attacks Down Under, but all the victims survived. In April, a woman was attacked and seriously injured by a kangaroo while playing golf in Queensland. In March, a teenage girl was riding her moped in Victoria when a kangaroo suddenly jumped out of the woods and knocked her off the bike.

The 14-year-old was hospitalized for 10 days with injuries. Also in March, a three-year-old girl was attacked by a kangaroo on her east coast home. For days, residents of the Australian town of Maaroom are terrorized by aggressive marsupials (see video above). People are being attacked again and again – countless people have already been injured.

Kangaroo is Australia’s national animal
There are four species of jumping marsupials: the red kangaroo, the eastern gray kangaroo, the western gray kangaroo, and the antelope kangaroo.
