A study has found that finger length could be linked to your exposure to COVID-19

Date:

The length of your fingers can indicate how sick you are if you catch the Covid virus

According to a new study from Swansea University, the length of your fingers can indicate the extent to which you have Covid disease. The study showed that an index finger longer than the ring finger indicated an increased risk of hospitalization for Covid-19 and also found that hospitalized patients with Covid-19 had shorter pink fingers compared to their other fingers.

The relative length of the fingers during pregnancy is determined by hormones. The study, led by Professor John Manning, examines the relationship between testosterone and the severity of Covid-19.

In general, men have longer index episodes due to higher prenatal testosterone levels, while women have the opposite due to higher estrogen levels. He noted another indication of low testosterone levels, especially during puberty, is the presence of a pink or pink finger shorter than the middle finger.

Professor Manning, of the A-STEM research group, said: ‘Men who are hospitalized with Covid-19 have very low testosterone and high estrogen. In humans, digit length models give hints about testosterone levels during development, both in utero. and puberty.

A long index finger (2D) compared to a ring (4D) may indicate low testosterone in utero, and a short little finger (5D) compared to a middle finger (3D) may indicate low pubertal testosterone. Both are more common in women. of men. Furthermore, there may be differences in these ratios between right-handed and left-handed and these differences are greater in women.

“We found that compared to a healthy control group, hospitalized patients with COVID-19 had (1) short little fingers compared to other fingers (possibly during low testosterone puberty) and (2) differences in hand ratio. Right and left are significantly elevated, Particularly visible for the finger compared to the thumb and for the little finger compared to the other fingers (indicates low testosterone level in prenatal and puberty).

‘Female-like’ numerical coefficient samples in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 indicate that viral testosterone depression and estrogen increase are strong in individuals with a ‘feminized’ ratio. The consequences of this can be particularly problematic. in men.”

The professor added that low testosterone and high estrogen levels were associated with other diseases before birth and puberty, such as obesity and heart disease in men, adding: “Covid-19 is likely to be more severe in patients with these preparations.”
