Due to a technical defect, the Karawankentunnel is closed to trucks and buses (larger than 3.5 tons). According to Asfinag, the repairs will take several weeks.
“Due to a technical defect on the Slovenian side, there is currently a driving ban for motor vehicles over 3.5 tons in the Karawankentunnel on the A11 Karawankenautobahn,” reports Asfinag. Vehicles under 3.5 tons can easily pass through the tunnel, they say. The Slovenian highway manager DARS is already working hard to repair the damage to a tunnel ventilator. Nevertheless, a truck/bus driving ban of more than 3.5 tons can be expected for several weeks.
International diversion
The international diversion for heavy traffic and buses runs via the A2 Südautobahn and the A10 Tauernautobahn.
