An explosion believed to have been caused by a gas leak damaged a building in Madrid’s old town on Friday. The explosion near Malasana neighborhood started a fire and injured three people.
Two people suffered minor injuries and a woman had to be treated in hospital for severe burns.
“We have initial indications that the explosion was caused by a gas leak,” said a police spokesman.
Many buildings in the old town of the metropolis are old and dilapidated, as is the infrastructure.
The desolate situation regularly leads to accidents.
Last year, a building in the La Latina neighborhood was destroyed by a gas explosion. Four people were killed as a result.
