A highlight of Aufsteirern Sunday in Graz: Hundreds of couples swung their hips on the Passamtswiese in the Stadtpark to set a spectacular world record for waltzing in traditional costume. The mission was successful. Watch our drone video!
On Sunday exactly at 11:30 am it all started: the music sounded, more than 800 people started moving in dance steps at the same time. The goal: to set the world record for waltzes in traditional costume as part of the Graz Aufsteirern Festival.
And it worked: 432 couples, dressed in traditional costume, “waltz” at the same time on the Passamtswiese – that has never happened before! An entry in the Guinness Book of Records is imminent. As a thank you, all dancers received a certificate that will commemorate the day forever.
Waltz record remains in Italy
Incidentally, it would have taken 1598 pairs to break the overall world record for waltzes. It was founded in Trieste in 2018.
