New York District Attorney indicts Trump and three of his children over alleged tax crimes

The former Republican president took advantage of the fraud that lasted more than a decade and affected all levels of his organization

New York Attorney General Democrat Letitia James on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against former US President Donald Trump and three of his children (Donald, Eric and Ivanka) over alleged tax crimes within the Trump Organization.

As James set out in a 200-page lawsuit, the former president and his children are allegedly involved in a large-scale fraud that lasted more than a decade, affected all levels of the organization, and benefited Trump himself. . “These acts of fraud and misrepresentation were committed by senior management of the Trump Organization as part of a concerted effort for each annual (tax) statement and were approved at the highest levels of the Trump Organization, including Mr. Trump himself. says the writing.

James believes Trump and the rest of the defendants may have violated state and criminal laws, for which he referred the case to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the IRS, according to television network CNN.

The lawsuit’s origins date back to March 2019, when the statement to Congress from former Trump Organization attorney Michael Cohen raised questions about the company’s “potentially fraudulent financial statement.” Trump, for his part, has repeatedly criticized the investigation, which he considers a “crusade” against him, even referring to James as a “renegade accuser” responsible for a “vengeful and selfish” case.
