Concerned guests alerted the police in central Vienna on Monday evening after being threatened with a gun by a man (38) in a bar. A large contingent of emergency services followed.
Witnesses said the 38-year-old man was carrying a suspicious elongated object under his clothes and acting strangely at the bar. When asked about this, he threatened to shoot the local guests.
Police officers with death threats
The police were able to arrest the man. A search did not find a gun, but a machete hidden under his clothing. During the arrest, the man became increasingly aggressive and also threatened the officers with death.
No injuries
Police believe the suspect is mentally ill. He was taken to a medical facility. The weapon was secured. In addition, a provisional firearms ban has been imposed on the 38-year-old. There are no injuries.
