The former foreign minister of the government of Spain points to three areas of concern: the “huge” abstention, the victory of the far right and “political wear and tear”.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Spain, Arancha Gonzalez Layahas branded “worrying” the victory of the far right in Italy, even if it was something “announced” and “expected”.
In a interview awarded to the “Boulevard” program of Radio Euskadi, the dean of the School of International Affairs in Paris has indicated three points of concern: the “huge” abstinence, especially among young people; the victory of the far right and “political exhaustion”.
Asked for the influence of the elections in Italy, according to González Laya, will depend on the position of the new government team: “We do not know what will happen”. Likewise, he stressed that within the winning coalition there are different positions on things such as Russia or taxes, which need to be clarified.
He has also referred to a hypothetical Italy’s exit from the European Union. González Laya has been careful: “We know very little about the concrete, then we will have to wait.”
