German Chancellor Olaf Scholz tested positive for corona for the first time on Monday. He had mild cold symptoms and immediately went into isolation in the Chancellor’s apartment in the Federal Chancellery. Scholz returned on Sunday from a two-day trip to the Gulf States. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) was also “caught”.
“This week’s public appointments are cancelled, the Chancellor wants to virtually attend the internal appointments and the planned meeting with the prime ministers of the federal states,” said government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit about Scholz’s disease.
Scholz returned on Sunday from a two-day trip to the Gulf States. Before embarking on the journey, he had taken a PCR test, which was negative. He tested negative again on Sunday, according to government sources.
Scholz had not contracted Corona before. During a trip to Africa in May, there was a corona outbreak in his delegation, in which several members of the delegation from his environment became infected. Scholz himself was spared.
Faeser: ‘The virus remains treacherous’
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) also announced on Twitter on Monday that she had tested positive for Corona. “Now Corona has got me too, for the first time. The virus remains insidious. Everyone take care of yourself this fall!” she wrote.
