After 15 minutes – demo for Iranian women stopped by Taliban

Date:

Women around the world are raising their voices against Iran’s repressive rulers and holding solidarity demonstrations. Even in Afghanistan, about 25 women gathered in front of the Iranian embassy on Thursday and demanded “No to the dictatorship”. But after fifteen minutes it was over and the Taliban security forces intervened.

They fired into the air, took the protesters’ banners and tore them up. The protesting women, some of whom covered their faces with sunglasses and respirators, took what was left of the banners, formed them into paper balls and threw them at the Taliban. The Taliban present ordered the journalists present to remove photos and videos of the demonstration from their devices.

Taliban want to prevent reports of demos
Since the Taliban came to power last August, women’s rights activists have staged isolated protests in Kabul and other cities. In doing so, they violated a series of strict restrictions imposed on Afghan women by the Taliban. The Taliban violently dispersed several rallies and harassed journalists.

Iran has been gripped by a wave of protests following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died in custody under unknown circumstances. Amini was arrested on September 16 by the vice squad for violating the strict Islamic dress code. The demonstrators speak of police brutality, which the authorities resolutely reject. At least 76 people have died in the protests so far, according to the Oslo-based human rights organization Iran Human Rights (IHR).
