A violent storm in mid-August caused devastation and widespread power outages in Styria, Carinthia and Lower Austria. The image of a broken electricity pole in Zeltweg became a symbol for the destructive power of the unpredictable weather. He is back six weeks later.
On August 18, hurricane-like gusts swept across the country, throwing objects through the air, roads became impassable and 85,000 Styrian households suddenly had no electricity. Among other things, because high-voltage lines in the vicinity of Zeltweg in Upper Styria were heavily damaged.

A month and a half later, the four affected pylons of the Austrian Power Grid (APG) are now fully operational again: APG announced that two had to be completely rebuilt. Her spokesperson Christoph Schuh also announced: “The 220 kV line, which connects the substation Obersielach (Carinthia) and Hessenberg (Styria), has been put back into operation today according to plan.”
The company considers the rapid reconstruction and commissioning, despite supply chain bottlenecks, to be “very satisfactory”. Thanks went to the police and the volunteer fire brigade, who provided important security services at the start of the mast break.
