At least four people have been killed in an avalanche accident in the Indian part of the Himalayas. Rescuers say a 33-strong expedition group from a mountain school was thrown into an avalanche at an altitude of 4,880 meters in the northern state of Uttarakhand on Tuesday.
Eight climbers were rescued, the others were trapped in a crevice. Local media estimate the death toll at ten.
Last week, noted American ski mountaineer Hilaree Nelson died in an accident at Manaslu in the Nepalese part of the Himalayas. On the same day, a Nepalese mountaineer died in an avalanche on the eight-thousander.

A few days later, a base camp on Manaslu was overrun by a huge avalanche – reported the “Krone”. A Sherpa filmed (video above) how the masses of snow reached and buried the camp. Miraculously, there were no casualties.
