The Minister of Economy and Finance of the Basque Government, Pedro Azpiazú, has ensured that the Spanish government’s estimate of the quota to be paid by Euskadi in 2023 is “not very high” and coincides with that of the autonomous executive. In addition, he stated that the 40-year delay in the TAV shows that “no importance has been attached to investment in the Basque Country”, a situation he described as “structural”.

Before the opening of the conference “Taking the pulse of the labor market” to be held this Friday in Bilbao under the organization of the EY-Sagardoy Talent and Innovation Institute, the Basque minister referred to the investments included in the accounts are prepared for 2023 by the Spanish government, €559 million47 more than in the current year, confirming that these “have always been very low”.

“They’ve always been below the population index, of course, the income index, sometimes they’ve been around 0.80%, 1%have been very low,” he explained. In his opinion, it is “a structural defect” that has always been criticized by the PNV in Congress.

In this sense, he has ensured that the estimate made by the Basque government of the contingent that Euskadi will have to pay to the state next year is comparable to that of the central executive, some €1.68 billionalmost 20% more. “It’s basically not a very high-rise building,” he said.

The economy and finance minister added that, compared to the original 2022 budget, “there will be a reality, namely the liquidation of that year which, based on the growth of coordinated taxes, will increase relatively much” .

In addition, he added that the quota to be paid from Euskadi next year will depend on “how the state collection goes”.
