After an ATM explosion in a shopping center in Hollabrunn (Lower Austria) on September 1, 2021, a suspicious duo has been investigated. The suspects will be held in Slovenia and Korneuburg on Friday, according to the state police headquarters. In addition, another such act in Hevlin (CZE) near the Austrian border was clarified at the end of July 2021.
During the explosion in Hollabrunn, the glass fronts of shops were badly damaged and the ATM was completely destroyed. The perpetrators took all the cash boxes and fled in an unknown direction.
Escape to Czech Republic
During the investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Service of Lower Austria in collaboration with the Czech authorities, a 32-year-old Albanian and a 40-year-old Romanian citizen were identified as suspects. According to the police, the men fled to the neighboring country after the coup in the Weinviertel district. North of Znaim they set fire to the car.
Another explosion at an ATM fixed
Police say the 40-year-old is currently being held in Slovenia for similar crimes. The 32-year-old was arrested on September 14 in Barcelona (ESP) on the basis of a European arrest warrant issued by the Korneuburg prosecutor’s office and extradited to Austria. He confessed when interrogated by Lower Austrian criminals. When the man was questioned, the explosion of an ATM in Hevlin, Czech Republic, was also clarified.
