Nobel Peace Prize 2022, lawyer Ales Bialiatski and two pro-rights groups from Russia and Ukraine

Bialiatski is a Belarusian lawyer and activist who is considered one of the promoters of the democratic movement in that country in the 1980s. In addition, the work of the Russian NGO Memorial and the Center for Civil Liberties of Ukraine has been awarded.

The Peace Nobel has this year the civil activism in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, recognizing the work of the Belarusian activist and lawyer Ales Bialiatskicthe Russian NGO memorial and the Center for Civil Liberties from Ukraine.

The award ceremony was done this morning by Norwegian Nobel Committee chairman Berit Reiss-Andersen.

The prize, endowed with worldwide recognition with 10 million Swedish crowns (more than 917,000 euros), will be presented in December in Oslo (Norway).

For this year’s edition, 342 applications had been submitted, of which 251 were for individuals and 92 for organisations. The list, which closed at the end of January, is the second largest in the history of the awards, behind only the record of 376 reached in 2016.
