Came on Tuesday at 11am – no fake! – the call from Sweden, on Thursday at 3:30 pm, quantum physicist Anton Zeilinger, 23rd Austrian Nobel Prize winner since 1901, gave this interview to the “Krone”.
In the kitchen diner At the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information in Vienna’s Boltzmanngasse, students stand at a three-meter-wide table and discuss. On the table are plates of sliced tomatoes and pasta pots that serve as vases for marigolds. Three clocks on the wall – St. Pölten, Vienna and Brno – show the exact same time. At one point Prof. Zeilinger enters the room and is given a cup of coffee. “I’ll be right there”, he tells us and the young researchers, they should not be disturbed by him. Later in his office, the new Nobel laureate has all the time in the world, although the conversation is expected to last a maximum of 30 to 45 minutes. He is sitting in a black armchair, his coffee and a plate of sweets on the table in front of him. On the floor is an oversized black molecule of the artist Julian Voss-Andreae, a former student of Prof. Zeilinger. The chalkboard on the wall is full of formulas.
