A 15-year-old East Styrian was seriously injured on Tuesday afternoon in an accident involving an electric tricycle. He crashed – standing on the loading floor – into a tree. Before that, he and two other boys (aged 13 and 14) may have had fun with the vehicle, causing the youths to lose control of the vehicle.
A trip with an electric tricycle ended on Tuesday in Mitterdorf an der Raab (Weiz district) with an emergency helicopter mission. Three boys (13, 14 and 15) were driving the vehicle on a forest trail when the 14-year-old driver stopped suddenly and applied the handbrake. The other two were in the back of the truck.
According to the police, the 13-year-old should have released the handbrake from the cargo area and pressed the accelerator. The vehicle jerked forward, the 13-year-old lost control and the tricycle went off the forest track. While he was still able to jump out, the 15-year-old remained on the cargo bed and fell with the vehicle into a ditch – where the tricycle eventually crashed into a tree.
After first aid from the emergency doctor, the young Oststeirer was flown with the rescue helicopter to the children’s clinic in Graz with serious injuries. The Hohenkogl volunteer fire brigade has recovered the badly damaged vehicle from the ditch.
