The “Krone” reports on the case of the smuggling of mobile phones in the prison in Puch-Urstein in Salzburg. Two guards were arrested for this on Wednesday. Now they have made a partial confession during police interrogation, confirms their lawyer Kurt Jelinek.
After Wednesday’s raid, the two arrested officers were questioned on Thursday. It deals with the bribery and abuse of office allegations: “My clients have confessed to the allegations in some cases,” attorney Kurt Jelinek told Krone.
Details still unclear
The lawyer does not want to say which accusations have been admitted. In general, it is still unclear how many mobile phones are involved and how long it all took. According to Ulrike Breiteneder, the spokeswoman for the competent public prosecutor of Linz, the authorities are “still at the beginning of the investigation in this case”. The officials are said to have received money for smuggling or not accepting mobile phones. The amounts involved are also still the subject of investigation.
Detention is requested
The two accused officers, only one of whom was last on duty, are also threatened with pre-trial detention: “I assume detention will be requested,” Breiteneder explained. Attorney Jelinek has already confirmed that a hearing on the imposition of pre-trial detention will be held at the Linz Regional Court on Friday.
