After a poster protest, a journalist fled Russia with her daughter

Date:

Journalist Marina Ovsyannikova fled Russia with her daughter. On March 14, the 44-year-old protested with a poster during a live television broadcast at her then employer Perwy Kanal against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ovzyannikova was under house arrest and placed on a wanted list. She was charged in August with “spreading misinformation” about the Russian military. You risk up to ten years in prison. She was also not allowed to use any means of communication.

“Ovzyannikova and her daughter have left Russia,” her lawyer Dmitry Sakhatov announced on Monday. “You are now in Europe. They’re fine.”

According to her lawyer, Ovsyannikova had left the apartment where she was under house arrest in Russia before fleeing abroad.

She will publicly comment on her escape at a later date, “but it’s not certain at the moment,” Sakhatov said.

Meanwhile, the journalist stayed in Germany, where she worked for the newspaper “Die Welt”. In July, Ovzyannikova returned to Russia to fight for custody of her two minor children, whom her ex-husband, who lives in Russia, wanted to take from her. She continued to criticize the Russian offensive in Ukraine.
