Talking to Kyiv? – Iranian government denies delivery of drones

Date:

The Iranian government has said it has not sent drones to the Russian military. Tehran is poised for negotiations and talks with Kiev “to clarify these allegations,” a spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

“The allegations that the Islamic Republic is sending weapons, including military drones, to the war in Ukraine,” are untrue. Government representatives are ready for negotiations and talks with Kiev. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov also confirmed that no Iranian kamikaze drones are currently allowed to be used in the war. When asked, he said he had “no information”.

The Ukrainian government had previously indicated that the Russian army would deploy Iranian kamikaze drones, among other things. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba therefore proposed to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to sever diplomatic relations with Tehran.

The US State Department threatened sanctions
In addition, the US State Department had threatened sanctions against companies and countries involved in Iran’s drone program. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the military alliance will supply anti-drone systems to the Ukrainian military “in the coming days”. With or without Iranian weapons, the Russian military continued its drone and missile strikes on Tuesday. There were repeated air raid sirens all over Ukraine.
