Last year, the Burgenland Christmas tree on Vienna’s Rathausplatz caused a lot of malice. Styria want to do better this year. A spruce that is more than 100 years old has been chosen. Can she convince?
Every year again: A state provides a Christmas tree that cuts a beautiful figure in the forest and transports it to the Rathausplatz in Vienna, where it must be carefully pampered because it is dented and crushed. Last year, the Burgenlanders faced a lot of criticism.
This year it’s the turn of a 130-year-old and 28-metre high spruce from a high valley between Admont and St. Gallen. Before the chainsaws arrive, some politicians have presented themselves to the tribe: Councilor for Agriculture Hans Seitinger as owner-representative of the state forests, their director Andreas Holzinger and the mayor of Admont Christian Haider.
The tree will be lit up on the Rathausplatz on November 19 with the mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig and the Styrian governor Christopher Drexler.
