Swedish climate icon Greta Thunberg apparently wants to step down. In an interview, the 19-year-old activist explained that she now wants to work more in the background for climate protection.
“I still do a lot, but I’m not as visible in the media anymore,” Thunberg told Brigitte Be Green magazine. The people most affected by the climate emergency need to be heard better. “It’s time to pass the mic,” Thunberg said.
In the nuclear energy debate, Thunberg reiterated that nuclear power plants are preferable to coal. “My personal opinion – and I’m not speaking here for Fridays For Future – is: it’s a mistake to stop them when coal is the alternative,” said the 19-year-old.
“Happier Than Ever”
Just a few days ago, the Swede, who became famous for the climate with her school strikes, gave a rare insight into her inner life. She told the German magazine Stern: “Sometimes it seems strange to me because I know that the climate crisis is making a lot of people depressed. But I’m happier than ever. Maybe because I feel a purpose.”
Her life in a shared apartment in Stockholm has changed her, so Thunberg further. “I went from someone who never talks to someone who is almost never silent. Somehow I always want people around me now.” Thunberg has Asperger’s, a form of autism that she describes as a strength.
