The Reef Village association is actually dedicated to saving the seas. Under the motto “Creating New Life”, the team is building artificial coral reefs (reef villages) in regions where natural disasters, industry or mass tourism have destroyed natural reefs. But because of Corona, members have only been able to travel to a limited extent in recent years.

It was decided without further ado to expand the working area to the local waters. Therefore, in October 2020, the concerned conservationists invited, together with other clubs and diving schools, to the first “Danube Cleanup”. More than two tons of waste were collected at that time.
Back in action in 2022
There was a repeat last week. This time, the Danube at the Floridsdorfer Bridge was stripped of car tires and the like during the cleaning work. Despite the bad weather, about 50 divers and 100 helpers showed up. Founder and underwater photographer of Reef Village Martin Aigner: “The coastal areas have been cleaned, the water has been submerged in waste and, thanks to our supporter Saubermacher, it has been properly disposed of.”
