Well-booked hotels – Every fourth Austrian will travel at Easter this year

Date:

At Easter many people think about leaving. Tourism companies are generally optimistic, but the situation in the cities is less rosy. “One in four Austrians wants to go on holiday at Easter, two-thirds of them in Austria,” said the head of the Austrian Hoteliers Association, Walter Veit, in the Ö1 “Mittagsjournal” on Monday, following a survey. But savings are also made and bookings are made on a shorter notice – often just a long weekend, not a whole week.

“16 percent still did not know if and where they would go on vacation,” added the ÖHV president. The local spa and wellness hotels are doing well to very well, followed by the winter sports resorts. Many Austrians still want to go skiing at Easter.

Half of the local accommodation facilities are currently open
According to the chairman of the Hotel Industry Association in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, about half of the local accommodation facilities are currently open. According to Susanne Kraus-Winkler, the occupancy rate in the holiday hotels is 70 to 75 percent. “The wellness and spa hotels are very well booked in the west,” the industry spokeswoman reported on the ORF radio show, referring to the “near market Germany.” The situation in the cities is less rosy than in the south and west of the country, emphasized ÖHV chairman Veit.

Although the Easter holidays have already started, there are still rooms available. “There is still room during the week, but the weekend is fully booked,” said the hotel spokesperson. The occupancy rate is 60 to 65 percent.
