It was a male friendship and a news item that brought a 50-year-old Carinthian to court on Monday. The Carinthian exchanged Nazi photos with his former military comrades.
“I actually ridiculed the chat messages,” the suspect told the jury on Monday morning. The public prosecutor showed little understanding. After all, the Carinthian clearly violated the prohibition law by distributing National Socialist images.
Nazi Santa and Emissions Test
Over a period of one and a half years, the 50-year-old exchanged photos and videos with his former army buddy. The photos showed, among other things, Santa Claus with a swastika ribbon and a Hitler salute. Another photo joked about VW’s emissions tests – clearly related to the gassing in the concentration camps.
“I didn’t like it”
When Judge Dietmar Wasserteurer asked the accused why he had sent his friend a total of eight photos or videos of Nazi content, the 50-year-old replied remorsefully: “I was not aware of the implications. I’m sorry.” Still, the prosecutor dug deeper and put the Carinthian through the wringer.
Hitler wine destroyed male friendship
The chat only broke because there was a complaint against the Burgenlander and police officers found wine bottles with National Socialist symbols in the gazebo. After further investigation, a trail also led to Carinthia.
“We are almost out of contact,” says the 50-year-old. The friend from Burgenland, from whom 130 Nazi messages have been confiscated, has already been given a year-long suspended prison sentence.
Different jury opinion
During the longer deliberations of the eight judges, there were sometimes differing opinions about the eight chat messages sent in total. For the majority of the jury, however, there was a violation of the Prohibition Act. The 50-year-old was therefore sentenced to a suspended prison sentence of a total of 12 months. The defense asked the court to think it over. The prosecutor’s office made no statement. The verdict is therefore not final.
