O terror! In Zwettl an der Rodl (Upper Austria), a scorpion crawled over a woman from the Mühlviertel after she went to sleep. The frightened woman managed to catch the poisonous arachnid.
An uninvited guest made himself comfortable in the bedroom of a mother of two in Zwettl an der Rodl (Upper Austria) on Friday evening. The woman went to bed and suddenly felt something on her arm around 9:45 PM. “It felt like a piece of bark. But a living piece,” says the 41-year-old. She decided to get to the bottom of the matter, turned on the light and saw an intruder that you normally wouldn’t expect in the Mühlviertel: a scorpion!
Caught with glass
The frightened woman reacted intuitively, immediately put a glass over the exotic. On closer inspection, the captured scorpion probably turned out to be only a moderately venomous specimen. Normally such species occur in southern holiday countries such as Croatia, their stings are usually not more poisonous than wasp stings – so not dangerous for humans.
Second case in 14 months
Incidentally, the municipality of Zwettl an der Rodl seems to be a place where scorpions feel at home. A similar copy appeared in a house there in August 2021. Even then, a woman had captured the poisonous animal and later brought it to the Bad Leonfelden police station in a pickle jar. The astonished law enforcement officers asked the Freistadt animal rescue service for help, who grabbed the man with the tip and took care of him.
