Several people were shot and wounded in a shooting at a subway station in Brooklyn, New York, this Tuesday morning.
Firefighters responded to the smoke bill at 36th Street Station in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park District at 8:30 a.m. at peak hours.
Firefighters confirmed that at least 13 people were injured, but in addition to the five gunshot wounds, details of those injuries are unknown, U.S. media reported.
Pictures posted on social media show several injured and bloodied people being treated on the platform. Several photos of a subway car full of smoke were also posted.
A post shared on social media shows that frightened travelers leave the car door as soon as it is opened, emit smoke and some people find it difficult to walk and lie on the ground.
A witness told Radio 1010 WINS that he saw a giant column of smoke coming out of the car after the door was opened. “It was smoke, blood and people screaming.”
Sources indicate New York Times That investigators believe a smoke bomb exploded and a gunman fired from inside a subway train.
The source of the smoke is being investigated and whether any explosive device has exploded. The police department wrote on Twitter that “there is no active explosive device at this time.” Mayor’s spokeswoman Fabien Levy said several smoke devices were found at the scene.
Police are looking for a possible suspect in the attack, a man wearing a gas mask and a similar vest worn by construction workers.
Authorities urged citizens to avoid the area where numerous emergency and police departments are mobilized.
Trains serving this station experience delays during rush hour. This subway line runs through South Brooklyn, about a 15-minute train ride from Manhattan.
The municipal authorities say they are trying to gather information about the incident, the reason for which is still unknown.
