In September, North Korea denied having supplied weapons to Russia on a massive scale in the aftermath of the war in Ukraine. Now the United States wants to prove that the aggressor is indeed supported by North Korea with military equipment.
North Korea is trying to cover up supplies of artillery shells through other countries, such as the Middle East, US National Security Council communications director John Kirby said Wednesday. “We continue to monitor whether the deliveries actually arrive.”
Sign of lack of military equipment
It is a “significant number”. However, the US government does not believe that these deliveries could affect the course of the war, Kirby continued. The deliveries don’t just show North Korea’s willingness to support Russia. It’s also a sign of Russia’s shortage of military equipment, Kirby said.
“I discussed in the past that there were indications that the Russians would reach North Korea,” he said.
Violation of UN resolution?
North Korea recently said the United States and other “enemy forces” were spreading rumors of an arms deal with Moscow. In the past, the US government had increasingly suspected that North Korea was selling ammunition to Russia on a large scale.
North Korea would violate a UN Security Council resolution if it actually supplied weapons to Russia. Instead, North Korea made an offer to send 10,000 North Korean volunteers to the Russian war of aggression who were willing to “join the conflict.”
