White winter greetings – reader photos: “Ottilie” brings snow to Tyrol

Date:

The golden autumn is taking a short break. An Italian low means snowfall at higher and sometimes lower elevations. As a result, winter driving conditions will also occur on roads at higher altitudes for the first time this winter. The country’s road maintenance departments are prepared. In the winter sports areas people are happy with the white splendor. From Monday it will be sunny again in Tyrol. Temperatures are also rising.

Last October was the warmest in Austrian measurement history. With the highest temperatures recorded, Tyrol is also prominently represented. On October 17 it was 25.6 degrees in Patsch. The bronze medal goes to the “Holy Land”.

The golden autumn is now taking a breather. The Italian low “Ottilie”, approaching overnight, brought large amounts of rain to North and especially East Tyrol on Friday. “Temperatures in the valley vary from five to nine degrees. The snow line is 1,000 to 1,200 meters,” said Ubimet meteorologist Steffen Dietz.

In Seefeld, two to four centimeters of white splendor will fall on Saturday during the day and at night. “At higher altitudes from 2000 meters along the main Alpine ridge, I expect 30 to 50 centimeters of snow, in the Arlberg area and the Karwendel with 20 to 30”, calculates the expert.

Stay 15 centimeters on the Ischgler Idalpe
This will of course also make the winter sports areas happy, where the new season will soon start. For example, Ischgl reported that “Frau Holle” had already conjured 15 centimeters of fresh snow on the Idalp overnight.

And KitzSki in Kitzbühel also reported: “It’s snowing, so we’re looking forward to it!”

From Monday, golden autumn will celebrate its comeback
Saturday offers six to eleven degrees in the valley. “There will be a lot of clouds and some precipitation,” Dietz says. On Sunday, however, the white splendor will be on the collar again. “In the morning there are still some clouds, in the afternoon more clouds will come from the west. But it is usually dry.” Temperatures are between eight and eleven degrees, in Seefeld between five and six.

On Monday and Tuesday, the golden autumn returns. When the sun shines, temperatures rise to nine to 14 or ten to 16 degrees. “Although fog areas can be expected in the morning,” the expert concludes. If you have not yet put winter tires on your car, you still have a grace period in the valley.

Incidentally: in the long-term average between 1991 and 2020, the positive deviation in October is around 3.3 degrees. It was the eighth month that was too hot this year.
