Shortly after Monday it was announced that the editor-in-chief of the “Presse”, Rainer Nowak, would temporarily resign as editor-in-chief and publisher of the “Presse”, there was also a bang at ORF: editor-in-chief Matthias Schrom, who, like Nowak, is now Chats with ex-ÖBAG boss Thomas Schmid is also retiring.
As was apparent from the ORF editorial meeting that just took place on Monday, Schrom is going on vacation for the time being. The previous deputy Eva Karabeg takes over his agenda. In addition, ORF Director General Roland Weißmann uses the ORF Ethics Committee to develop an “even stricter” code of values. Because, according to Weißmann, “credibility is our greatest asset”.
Nowak is withdrawing from his own decision and until the results of the investigation are available, the “Presse” reports on its website. Florian Asamer, formerly deputy editor-in-chief, will become editor-in-chief of the newspaper until the results are available.
Over the weekend, Nowak apologized “for tonality and inappropriate closeness” (meant to Schmid), which are reflected in chats. He had the ambition to become an ORF general with an ÖVP ticket.
