“Closed” on the weekend – the hospital in Lower Austria just forwards the injured

Date:

Almost all emergencies have already been transferred to other hospitals. But now patients with minor injuries in Waidhofen an der Thaya are also sent to clinics more than 30 kilometers away in the evenings and on weekends. “We can no longer speak of basic care”, the affected are upset.

Who takes care of minor cuts on the weekend? Who changes the bandage after 7 p.m. on weekdays or helps with minor health problems? Do you have to drive 30 kilometers to the nearest hospital every time? What sounds like a capitulation of medical care has already become a bitter reality in the Waidhofen an der Thaya district.

Certainties were not correct
After the “Krone” discovered the impending closure of the hospital operation in Waidhofen in the fall, ÖVP State Deputy Stefhan Pernkopf, FPÖ State Councilor Gottfried Waldhäusl and Markus Klamminger of the State Health Organization (LGA) claimed that only “something in the organizational form” would change. Andreas Reifschneider, LGA manager in the Waldviertel, tried to refute further fears.

Basic care is difficult
Now it seems obvious that the LGA sends patients to the clinics in Zwettl, Horn and Gmünd after 7 p.m. and on weekends. According to the LGA, basic care is still provided, which even doctors see differently. And the medical director of the hospitals in Zwettl, Waidhofen and Gmünd, Manfred Weissinger, is currently “intensively looking for a better solution”.

SPÖ has been locating “craziness” for a long time
The SPÖ in the region has been rumbling for a long time. “That’s not stock anymore, that’s insane!” scolded Kurt Lobenshot, president of the red association of district representatives in the Waidhofen district. In addition to the long distances between hospital sites, he also emphasizes the weather – winter road conditions often make long journeys very difficult.
